AI Council and CodeRabbit

CodeRabbit reviews finished pull requests. AI Council gives the agent project memory and rules before it edits, then reviews branches against the same rules.

In short

CodeRabbit is one of the most widely used AI code review services. It reads pull requests in GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps, leaves line-by-line comments and a change summary, and suggests fixes. Review rules live in a .coderabbit.yaml file, including per-path rules, and the service remembers team feedback as learnings.

AI Council works earlier, while the agent is writing code. It hands the agent the project's decisions and rules tied to the code and keeps it from starting an edit blind. AI Council also has branch review, and it checks changes against the same rules the agent received.

Which to choose

  • When CodeRabbit is enoughYou want a second pair of eyes on pull requests, the team is small, your code can go to the cloud, and the project rules are simple enough to fit in a review config.
  • When you need AI CouncilAgents write a lot of code and you want mistakes caught before review: the agent should know the project's decisions and rules before it edits. This matters most if you need an air-gapped setup or a shared team knowledge base.
  • Can you use bothYes. AI Council cuts down the problems that reach the pull request, and CodeRabbit stays as the final check.
